In October 2018, the FH Foundation, at its annual Global Summit honored Roger Williams MD to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of publication of the World Health Organization (WHO) Consultation on familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), the most common genetic disorder causing premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, and underscore continued gaps in identification and care. (1) FH, with a prevalence of about 1:220-250 worldwide, causes lifelong elevated levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c).
